He was a lover and loved, he painted beautyful pictures, and he slept through D-Day—and that’s just the beginning. For this reason, we thought among many of them we’d take a look at only 10 lesser known facts about this dislikeable dictator.
Number 10: Man of the Year and Nobel Peace Nominated.
Hitler was awarded “Man of the Year” by Americans in 1938 for actively spreading democracy around the world. He was even nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 1939. As we all know, Hitler never received that award.
Number 09: A True Lover
Yes, it’s absolutely true. The lucky lady was named Stefanie Isak; though she never so much as said a word to Hitler, Hitler fantasized about kidnapping and committing suicide with her.
Number 08: Anti-Smoking
Though Hitler may not have been a humanitarian, he was vehemently against smoking. He even went so far as to organize an anti-tobacco campaign. After German doctors became the first to identify the link between smoking and lung cancer, Germany initiated a strong anti-tobacco movement and led the first public anti-smoking campaign in modern history. Anti-tobacco movements grew in many nations from the beginning of the 20th century, but these had little success, except in Germany, where the campaign was supported by the government after the Nazis came to power. It was the most powerful anti-smoking movement in the world during the 1930s and early 1940s.
Number 07: Missing a Testicle
The possibility that Adolf Hitler had only one testicle has been a fringe subject among historians and academics researching the German leader. The rumor may be an urban myth, possibly originating from the contemporary British military song "Hitler Has Only Got One Ball". Nevertheless, research, eyewitness testimony and historical study have not been able to prove or disprove the suggestion.
Number 06: Support Sex Dolls
The Borghild Project was a hoax purported to be evidence for a German project during World War II aimed at combating the spread of syphilis among Nazi troops by supplying soldiers with sex dolls. Adolf Hitler supposedly approved the project to distribute inflatable sex dolls to his soldiers, which could be transported in their backpacks in order to give them an option to avoid places of prostitution in Paris.
Number 05: Jewish artifacts
Hitler’s hatred for Jewish people is very well known, but did you know he actually collected numerous Jewish artifacts? His plan was to create the Museum of an Extinct Race.
Number 04: Hitler’s half-niece
Geli Raubal, Hitler’s half-niece, stayed in his apartment in Munich while studying medicine. When he discovered she was having a relationship with his own driver, Emil Maurice, he forced an end to the affair and dismissed Maurice from his service. Not long after, she shot herself using his gun.
Number 03: Art Lover.
Hitler loved art. He even moved to Vienna to pursue an art career. Soon after, he applied to attend the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, but was denied.
Number 02: Noble Jew
There is one Jew who we know of that Hitler didn’t hate. While he was very young, his family couldn’t afford to pay for a doctor. Eduard Bloch, a Jewish-Austrian doctor, decided to help him and his family by not charging them anything for his services. When Nazi Germany came to be, this doctor was named the “Noble Jew” and was never sent to the concentration camp.
Number 01: Dust to Dust
Hitler’s body was buried four times. After a while, his remains were cremated and ashes were thrown into the wind.
